Between The Sea And The Sky
(Cherry Red Records RETRO818) 2007
The first 11 tracks on this compilation were originally intended for release as an album in 1971. The track selection includes Pale Green Vauxhall Driving Man and Jaywick Cowboy, both released under the name Prowler, and Jaywick Cowboy, released as a B-side under the name Corn and Seed Merchants. The A-side East Of The Sun, West Of The Moon, described by Brian Engel as "a cynical, deliberately contrived pop sing-a-long à la Max Bygraves", was deliberately left off this compilation.
The last two tracks on the CD, a new version of Pale Green Vauxhall Driving Man and a new song Creeping Tom, were both recorded in 2006.
Tracks: The Oak Tree | Goodbye Uncle Freddie | Action Man | The Artist | Mr. Middleton's Lament | Bandstand | Midwinter Fair | Subway Superstar | Pale Green Vauxhall Driving Man (album version) | Between The Sea And The Sky | Sidney With A Violin | Pale Green Hmmmm Driving Man (single version) | Jaywick Cowboy (single B-side) | I'm The Leading Man | Do You Dream | Pale Green Vauxhall Driving Man (2006 version) | Creeping Tom

The album, produced by Andrew Jackman, was inspired by Martin Briley's and Brian Engel's memories of the Merseybeat era. It is described by Mark A. Johnston as "a superb UK power pop album" which has remained "a favourite of those who like Beatles / Badfinger-like pop."
